Visiting Schools Program (VSP) welcomed 33 Grade 9 students from the American International School, Dhaka, to Chiang Mai in March 2023. One of the core learning opportunities of their trip was a workshop using art and theatre approaches to highlight social justice concerns for local villages and people sometimes called Hill Tribes.
VSP works closely with the Makhampom Foundation in Chiang Dao to focus on the lives of the tribal people of northern Thailand. The day included exploring the history and culture of the people, their migration to Thailand, and subsequent lifestyle as they do not have Thai citizenship. Students prepared games and performances for a visit to a small village occupied by the Dara'ang people, followed by a cultural exchange activity between students and the villagers. The day was a powerful exponent to global perspectives and the understanding of others.
