Our Junior Artist camp began with a welcome circle in Sala 3, where we learned each other's names using interactive animal names. The children were encouraged to come up with an animal that started with the same letter as their name. Our first activity was cat weaving, where we decorated cardboard cats with yarn and colored pencils. After snacks, we had a lovely spray painting session outdoors with spray bottles and clothes. The children learned to share materials and work as a team, using leaves as stencils to create a large painting.
On day two, we visited the farm and made grilled bananas and natural tie-dye. The children learned about the plants used to make different materials and how to dye cotton clothes to create cool patterns. We also had activities that engaged with nature, such as drawing faces on trees using mud. At first, many thought the mud was dirty, but they soon realized it was fun and developed a new appreciation for natural arts. We also visited the cooking academy, where we made edible art using icing sugar and biscuits. The children drew animal and plant designs on the biscuits and took them home at the end of day three. We made monster eyes using salt dough, allowing the students to unleash their creativity and sculpt the craziest designs. We then painted the little sculptures and glued a marble on each as an eye. Everyone created their unique monster’s eye and was excited to bring it home.
Finally, we ended our week on a high note by making oobleck using cornstarch and water. The children were fascinated by the half-liquid, half-solid nature of oobleck and had a blast. We also learned small facts about the states of matter while having a lot of messy fun!
As it was time to say goodbye, we reflected on the week and shared our favorite moments. Feeling grateful for all the laughter we had, new friends we’ve made, and challenges we’ve overcome.
